912E Motor Swap Options

A friend of mine just bought a 912E project and the motor has very low compression. 110 on all 4 cylinders.

He's considering his options and is wondering if any Type IV motor can be swapped in. Will the 912E tins bolt to any Type IV motor (say, from a VW bus)? Is there anything different between a 912E block and a VW Type IV block? Also, will it mate with the transmission correctly?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance.

The R engine was never really fast. If it has 110 across the board. The engine can't be too bad. However, it is a Porsche massaged engine. Which means that it is faster than a bus type IV. Also he can save some money with rebuilding the one in the car, if needed.

You can tell him that there is a place the 912E folks can tell you. That can rebuild that engine to something much faster. I think the name is something like Raby.

Besides the people here, there is also this group that can help you.

Thanks James!

He's looking to put in a 2.4L Fat Performance built Type IV motor w/ upright 911 fan. But since it's a VW motor, we're not sure what modifications need to be made to make it work with the 912E chassis (engine tins, clutch, flywheel, input shaft, trans, etc.)

He'll be holding on to the original motor for sake of originality and might rebuild it in the future if he decides to sell the car.

There may be a heat problem with a 2.4L. You might have to add a front oil cooler.
