Matching Number Re-stamp,questions..

I find it on Ebay.

Porsche 356 A , 356 B & 356 C, 912 engine 3rd piece number re-stamping service | eBay

According by "seller",will be absolute professional job.

I think,the original place of numbers,absolute Straight,
According by seller, place of numbers is little bit oblique.
(yes,if somebody remove the orig.numbers, than will be the surface "oblique...the "made in Germany "notices must be left its original condition.)

Stupid ask, that this is a legal in U.S?
What do you think?

It may be legal, but it's unethical. Imagine being sold a 'numbers-matching' car (at premium price) only to find case date stamps are later than date of car manufacture. Replacement case pieces should bear a stamped 'K' designating replacement.

I can't fathom this being legal. He's been running the ad for a while. I contacted EBay but they apparently weren't concerned. It is at least fraud since it is attempting to represent something as authentic when it isn't.

Forgery pure & simple.

I concur with John. You might let the FBI know about this. I am sure that they will be sent across State lines.

This is a major issue in the vintage Corvette world where it could make a $50K difference and it is fraud.

I know it is illegal in NY. Any officer trained in auto theft would recognize the alteration the car would be confiscated and the owner arrested.

Is that any alteration or the vin number?, that would take some serious sleuthing to prove fraud and not a "cosmetic" alteration, but I'm not a cop.
I still can't believe that eBay doesn't recognize this as a service that is clearly contributing to fraudulent activity, but I guess they get their cut and don't care.

Engine are also stolen from stripped down autos. So the owner, when stopped, would have to produce paper work that the engine was legally purchased. By it's original serial number.
