Bike Rack for 69 912 Targa

Hey guys,
I thought I would share a quick build that I am working on. I am just about done with the prototype.

What do you think?

Thanks,
Russell

1969 Targa Bike Rack

Chris,
I am trying to mimic the early Porsche style rack.

The rack mounts with the factory location. There are two screw holes located behind the Targa seal.

Thanks,
Russell

69 912 Targa Bike Rack

Here are some updates...
I decided to use leather straps for the rear car to mimic leather luggage straps. I think they look vintage and fit the style very good. I still have a few more items to clean up but its getting there.

Thanks,
Russell

Russel, looks great.

Be careful when welding mild steel to stainless. The mig weld can and will 'pop off' if not really burned in well.

May be better cut cut steel tubing in half long ways and weld it to your hub bracket, then drill through and bolt this to the rack rather than weld -Matt

69 912 Targa Bike Rack

Matt,
Thank you for the "Top Tip of the Day". I did not know that there could be issues with welding SST to mild steel. I really appreciate your input. Thanks!

Luckily, everything is made of 304SST. The SST bar mount is spot welded to the SST hoop bar. Then the bike front fork mount is taped for M8x10mm screws.

Thank you again,
Russell

Did you change your wire spool for stn stl also?
Looks great though and I just wanted to be sure your beautiful targa would not be damaged
