motor for 912e

All I can say is dag-nab-it.

Started work today taking down the junkyard find (2.0 t4 from 77 vw bus, for $100). Wanted to swap the sheet metal over and stuff it in the 912e, get it on the road. All was going well till I peered down one of the intakes to find a dropped valve seat. DOOH!

So, rather than spend $400 to have heads redone to put on a worn block, I figure I should assemble all the new parts I have in the shop and make a new motor, as long as I have to get new heads anyway.

So this is what I have:

stock 2.0 p&c's, rods, and crank
2.0 or 1.7 heads, which ever set, I'll send out to Headflow masters and get 42 x 36 valves.
pair of 40 idf carbs
webcam 73 cam and lifters

Question is, should I use the webcam 73, or should I get something with a little more kick to it for the 912e?

On my 912 T4 conversion I'm building the following:

2056
Stock 71mm crank
ARP rod bolts on stock rods
KB Cast 96mm pistons
Webcam 86
Webcam lifters
42x36mm stainless valves (port work, etc. by Headflow Masters)
Single HD springs
Compression ~9:1
Dual Weber 44 IDFs

The 86 is supposed to be a great street cam for "mild" engines. Set compression from 8.5:1 to 9:1 and it is supposedly a stomper from 2500rpm to redline. We'll see. Waiting on my heads right now.

Later,

G
