Fuel tank fittings
I was sooo close to getting my 912 back together and driveable last weekend when I found out there was a leak in the seal of the fuel tank. This was all as I was doing the POR-15 treatment to remove the rust. I saw it as an omen to just buy a new tank, for which I did. I did my rubberized undercoating and in the process of transferring over the 3 fittings from under the old tank, I could only loosen the large drain plug (part number 900.219.001.30), despite using PB Blaster. The drain plug is in good condition and I plan to re-use it. I know I need a strainer with 6mm nipple to be stock (part number 901.201.023.04 $105 or so), but was wondering if I could use the strainer strainer with 8mm nipple instead 901.201.023.06 ($60). I already have the 6mm fuel hose, but will it fit over the 8mm nipple?
Also, what is the 3rd fitting on the bottom of the tank? I can't budge it loose and broke an Allen wrench trying to unscrew it. It's the smallest of the 3 fitting and sits in the middle.

The .06 fitting seems to supersede the .04 with the larger diameter used for the 1969 911T, so it would be fine to use as long as you can fit or adapt your 6mm hose to it. If your hose just won't fit, most hardware stores sell brass hose drop down fittings which would allow you to use a small section of 8mm hose going from the tank to the drop down & 6mm from there on. As for the center fitting I think it's used for the FI system on the 69 911E/S cars so it makes sense that it would be blocked off on the 912. (Someone with a younger memory system might verify this.) Good luck Bill |

![]() ![]() I have a good selection of Metric fittings and would be happy to help. I also have a stock of Metric hose and can tell you a 6mm ID hose will not fit over a 8mm tube or fitting. Most likely an adapter must be used and I have those as well. Please email me as my PM box is always full. Len at Autosportengineering dot com ![]() |
