912 Rebuild question
Hello folks,
First time post. I am getting ready to start back to rebuild a 912 that I have had on the back burner for a LONG time. It's a 67 and I stripped it years ago, had it media blasted and primed and undercoated at that time. The shell is perfect. Here's my question: Where to start? Should I start installing the harness first or the suspension first? I'm thinking harness as nothing is in the way right now. Suggestions? Steve |

What are your plans for paint? Personally, I would start with the paint/undercoating. If it is on a rotisserie then there are some advantages to starting on the wiring harness since I am assuming it is a bit higher off the ground. The suspension is great for when you need it to be a roller.

Hmmm. I didn't think about paint first. Interesting thought.
When I had all the work done years ago I was going to paint the car red and the folks who did the blasting and undercoating painted it red everywhere and used a high build red primer on the parts that really need to be flawless (roof, quarters, etc.). But as I have grown older I have been contemplating going back with the original green. Any who... I am including a photo of how it sits now. It was on a rotisserie but I took it off and got it a little lower on a home made rolling cart. As you can see by the other one beside it, its a little higher than normal ride height now. Probably by a foot and a half. Thanks for any and all input! Steve |

Steve - I would second JT's reco of painting first. Get it to the point that you won't be creating any more 'dirt' before starting to put it back together again. Sanding/polishing dust will get into everything. You'll want to assemble it 'clean'.
Saw your post over on the bbs. Lots of good advice there as it's almost all been done before. Good luck.
