So who has hooked up a MSD to a 914-6?
:) It the new happy me!! People have said I am a jerk in the past, but I'm not, I'm just direct and dont sugar coat everything I say:D . Sorry, I will be happy now, YAY YAYSmileWavy . I think its funny the reaction people have from an expressionless internet post.
Anyway i have installed a MSD-6AL in my 914-6 3.0 (83 distributor) how to I hook up the distributor to the box? Do I jump both of the wires from the green wire into the MSD's white wire? Why is a 78-79 SC distributor better than a 80-83? I have heard this from many people but I have heard no explination as of yet?? :D Remeber this is a happy post! No jerk off replies please, keep the energy positive. No spell checking either, please, this is not a gramar classroom.SmileWavy |
Grammar, schmucko.

I hooked up an MSD to my Factory 914-6 last year. What fuel system are you running and which distributor?
I need to pull out the wiring diagrams, but I connected the MSD up to the factory CD wiring. Sounds like you have a 6 conversion. Were you using a standard coil or were you using a CD unit from the 911? James |
There are many threads about this on the 911 board - I think you will get more info on this over there (try a search over there, too).

Geeze James....

I was trying to give a real answer to confused, and add a little humor that the regulars around here would understand. Nothing bad meant to confused.

This is so funny:D . Much better format. I know I will check the 911 board, but I was lazy and started here.
I have a 1983 SC engine with a stock distributor, PMO carbs, MSD-6AL with a blaster high vibration coil, magnacore wires, bosch plugs. The distributor has a green wire comming out of it with an outer and inner wire. I know how to hook up the box but does the msd sender wire go to both wires comming out of the distributor. I was just wondering if someone knew off hand, and the distributor question, what is the reason to use a 78-79 distributor? Thanks for any help Redbeard (or should I say Thanks Laddy) "This message was not intended to piss somebody off, this disclamer was not well thought out, but this disclamer does disclame me from any speeling errors" |
I believe that the 78-79 distributor is preferred because its advance curve better fits a non-CIS 3-liter 911 engine's needs.

The wire from the Tach does not sound like a standard tach. Hook up the tach signal wire to the tach connection on the MSD. If you are using a Standard style 911 Tach, most likely, this will not work. You will need to send the tach out for work. Do a search on this in the archives, I went through this last summer.
