Tilt seat does not fully lock

I have about a 1/2" of play in my tilt seat. It's a little bit of a rocking chair. (as if I don't feel old enough already)

Anyone know what the fix is?

First off, pull the seat out and show us some pictures

It has a lever activated cam that fits into a solid "gear rack" that run vertically at the front side of the seat.

I'm wondering if maybe the cam is not fully returning home to lock into the gear rack securely. The spring is not broken, but when it is bolted in the lever doesn't seem to have the ability to fully travel.

Perhaps a one off problem, but I am new and thought it may be a commonly known problem. I tried to search the forum but nothing came back, but that can be so dependent on specific wording. I an fiddle with the mounting, perhaps it was just "off" a little, but there is not much play in how you mount it.

I'm finding a lot of parts are all over the place as far as year/style on this car. The original car was a 1971. It has had the floor pans replaced, and it has a lot of donor parts from later models. That makes me wonder about the dating of the seats.

The passenger seat is fixed, so it makes me think both are early seats.

I have the same problem. My seat suddenly tilted back during an Autocross run last week. Let us know what you find out.
