Main shaft seal

It is possible to remove the main shaft seal in a Porsche 914 transmission with out having to pull the whole trans apart to remove it from the inside. If there is a way I would like to know it because it would save me a lot of work.
Thanks guys

It is possible to get a small implement in from the flywheel side and pull it out, but it takes some doing. And you have to be careful not to scratch up the sealing surfaces.

People have used a wood screw threaded into the seal and a puller to pull the seal.

I have also heard that people pull the side cover off the trans and reach in with a long punch to push it out from behind.

Any way you do it, be careful not to scratch the surfaces that the seal rides on, or you'll have new fun leaks to deal with....
