Smoke from exhaust

Well my new motor seems to like smoking when cold and only when cold. I can't tell wether or not is is blue or white, seems to be in between. I'm running dual webers that are un-tuned. Could it just be that the carbs need to be tuned or what? I would think that the motor would burn oil when warm because it expands not the other way around. Does anyone have any insight on this matter? Thank you

Jim,
Actually, it is not unusual to get a little oil smoke at first startup. When the engine is setting, some oil will seep into the cylinders from the valve guides and rings if they are a little tired. Nothing to worry about.
When the engines heats up, the parts expand which actually close in the gaps. Think of a donut shaped metal piece. As it heats up it expands in ALL directions. That means that the inside diameter will get a little smaller, while the outside diameter will get a little larger. It does NOT all expand outward away from the center.

If your car smokes out of the engine compartment (not the tailpipe), starting about 3-5 minutes after you start the engine and lasting about 5 minutes, then you have oil leaking onto the heat exchangers. The most likely suspects are the pushrod tube seals and the valve cover gaskets.

My motor smokes for about 10 minutes after I start it when it's cold. It comes from the inside of the exhaust so it's not oil on the heat exchangers DD.
