New Michigan Owner

I apologize for not making it to the 914 breakfast on saturday but I have a valid excuse. I was picking up a 914. For those of you who read my previous post, I purchased the car mentioned there. It is a '74 2.0. The body is in good shape & longitude supports look. Right rear suspension mount is good. I spent sat. & sun. cleaning it up. Engine was covered in dust, as well as the rest of the car. Elecrical works well, with the exception of a few bulb sockets that just need cleaning. I discovered some leaky fuel lines so I am in the process of replacing those. The engine turns over, so hopefully she'll start without too much trouble. It came with a spare engine who's size I have not yet determined- lot of grime covering the engine code. Also came with spare gauges, 2 repair manuals (one of which I have never heard of that refers to the 2.0 as a 914S). Any Michigan owners live near around Jackson?

I live in Kalamazoo and Randy lives in Battle Creek. He and/or I could probably stop out there and check it out.

Randy has a Turbo 2056 in his 914 (well, he's *supposed* to have one ) and I have a 2270 T4 in a Bug. It's all fun.

Email me offline and we'll chat.

Flormat, glad to see you bought that car. Yes I watched for for you at the Breakfast. If you would like to be part of SMOG I'll need your e-mail address. There are a number of 914er's near you who I'm sure would help you out. Maybe some of us not so close would help also. You can e-mail me thru the list. Look forward to hearing about your car.

Hey Potter, Tom, Flormat & Rich.
We missed you guys at the meeting so we gave away all those free parts to the waitress. I really wanted to meet Potter & see if he would bring his Harley?? or is that a 914 with sissy bars.
Flormat, Congratulations on the 914 purchase. Rich, can't wait to see your 8-mobile. Ya-all join us this summer. I believe most of us are going to the VW meet here in Ypsi. MI on May 18th. It's always a great outing. Gary & I have been going for the last 4-5 yrs. and the VW people think our 914's are the rich man's ultimate VW (they love us). Get on the B.S.Chairman's email list for the event happens.

Hey, you guys are going to the Yipsi show? Cool. A friend and myself are starting a new Type 4 engine enthusiasts club up. Once I get off my butt (and class settles down for one minute) I will really get things going...

Essentially, to be a member, you must have a Type 4 motor and a relatively stock car... So, all 914's, Bug, Ghias, Busses, 912's, you name it, are acceptable.

I'll give an update on the club here soon.

We'll be at the show with quite a few different cars, all of them Type 4 powered. Right now, we have a 914, a 912, a couple of Bugs, and a Notchback. All of them > 2.0L in size...

Let's meet up.

Later,
Tom

Tom,

I'm sure I must have met you at the previous VWoA shows, I've talked to most every 914 owner that shows up there. Last year was chilly, the year before was blazing hot... I wonder what this year is going to be like?

Later,
Tom

Tom,
The big VW meet has been moved from VW Headquarters in Auburn Hills, Mi to a new location in Ypsilanti at depot town along the Huron River. It's a great location. I also go to the VW Milan Drag races in mid summer. Seeing those VW's do wheelie's & smoke the tires through the 1/8 mile track is awesome. We be all brothers, love those VW's. Try their web site MVW (Mich.VW something)??

Hey guys!

I'm the guy in the T4 "club" with the 912 and 2056ccs of stompin T4 (built from a 914 1.7L). We'll definitely be at Ypsi this year, but I've got to really bust my butt to get this thing put together before then.

Last year at Auburn Hills there were two teeners that I remember. A yellow 914-6 and an absolutely mint yellow 914 2.0L. Was that one of you? Very nice.

I'm interested to see how my VW-powered 912 goes over at the show.

Later,

G

Hey G
That was Gary's (yellow 914-6) & myself (yellow mint 914-4). Some guy from, I think Tom's Model Cars took pictures of Gary's 6 for a future 1/43 model toy car soon to be out this year. He wasn't interested in my car, probably because of the trunk rack & being a 4. The year before my car was selected for the parade & review of Karman built VW's. Got lots of oohs & ahs!! The strange thing, when VW magazines feature the show they never show the 914's. Must be trying to keep it all VW or they don't want them to defect to our camp.
