Don't want to open a HUGE can of worms...
All -
Just curious if any of you have had some of the same feelings I have had lately. As the header reads, I sure don't want to start a big political debate/flame war. This "community" seems very strong, so I thought it a pretty safe place to ask. In regards to current world events, I would have to say I lean much more toward the conservative "pro government" side. I have read much trying to figure out the "facts", my only conclusion being that to really fully understand what is going is simply impossible. I just hope for the safety of the troops. I have heard about certain groups trying to stage boycots of American products. For the first time in my entire life I have found myself really trying hard to buy domestic products. It's wierd. I have even thought of removing the French import plates from the 914 - for both patriotic reasons, and the fact that I don't want to come out to a parking lot in the future only to find the car vandalised. Am I over reacting on this stuff? Like I stated above, I have never really felt wierd about this stuff before. Sorry to bring politics into our happy little car world... I apologize if it was inappropriate. |
Please do not say anything more on this subject.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE My Porsche 914 is the cure for me right now. Sorry. Thanks. |

As a group of brothers, I do not know why we can not debate a good political point now and then. Brothers are always brothers even if they disagree once in a while. As long as no one starts yelling and calling names, I see no problem with it.
Scott. I am very supportive of our troops and the mission that they are on. I feel we had enough reason to be there on humanitarion reasons alone. Saddam was awfully cruel to his own people. I would take off the French tags if it were my car. They have burnt a bridge with the US for the last time in my book. We absolutely saved their bacon during WWII with the help of Allied forces and this is how they choose to thank us? Just ask the near 11,000 of primarily American and British soldiers that died one fatefull day during one battle to liberate their measly country. I can remember D-day, why can they not? Besides, the real truth behind the French, German and Russias position againsed the war is business. They do billions of dollars business with Iraq. France and Germany both buy oil from Iraq, France and Russia supply arms (that are now killing our boys) to Iraq. Russia is STILL at this very moment, selling arms to Iraq. I welcome a discussion, but keep it civil. Jay |
Hello All,
Yes, considering quite a few german businesses are not selling american made products in protest to the current events in Iraq. One thing does stick out. Whether you agree with our president's stand on our participation in this conflict or not, the fact remains that the war is on and we have our soldiers out there with their a$$es on the line for us. I personally have not served in the military but have close relatives and friends serving and on the sand as I write this. All I can say is God Bless our guys and gals out there doing their jobs. |
It's Okay to Talk First, I'd like to say that I think it's okay to talk about these issues. We're not so weak-minded and frail that talking about this issue will emotionally crush us. Moreover, I personally believe it's unAmerican to censor. Censorship is something others stand for, not us. Those who do not care to read this discussion can just skip this thread.
You're Not Overreacting Scott, I don't think you're overreacting. The war is real and it is important. People have strong feelings about it. They may very well vandalize your car just because they percieve it sends a pro-French message. I think that is too bad. I wouldn't ever vandalize your car, regardless of how offended I was by whatever was written on it. I'm Against the War I don't think we'll ever see liberal democracy and free market economies in Iraq in our lifetime. This is a grudge war fought on behalf of a son trying to wrap up the unfinished business of this father. It will incite more terrorism, not less. Tens of thousands of innocent people will die (most of them middle-eastern, and thus, we will not hear much about it). And it will cost us hundreds of billions of dollars. It will not make us safer, nor will it make our gas appreciably cheaper for years, if ever. Douglas |
I don't think political arguments like this have any place on a car-related BBS. People generally tend to have very strong opinions on these sorts of subjects (this and politics, which this discussion often degenerates into) and tend to post very heart-felt words. These are usually then interpreted by someone with equally heart-felt opinions on the other side as an attack, with predictable consequences.
I don't want to see a flame war about something other than 914s developing on this BBS (goodness knows, we have enough opportunities to flame about 914s!!), so I am going to lock this thread. --DD |
