steering wheel and ignition switch, blinkers

Hello, 1974 914 1.8 .................wanted to repair blinkers and replace ignition switch with new do I have to take the center bolt out and remove steering wheel for both of these? Also tell me if you prefer original steering wheel or momo (I have on currently)

Hello - take a look at the link below to one of our DIY tech articles on this procedure. As far as wheel preference, it's subjective. Some prefer to keep everything original and others like the 'race' look of the wheel. If you're tracking your 914, it's preferred to have a MOMO or other aftermarket brand wheel. Let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you very much for the information and the joining of the 2 yellow wires under the passenger seat. Do MOST people do this of leave it the way it is from the factory?

I'll let our members reply to that question - not sure what the preference is.

Join those wires. The Dreaded Seatbelt Interlock Relay is one of the more bone-headed safety initiatives to be installed on a car in the 70s.

I prefer the stock steering wheel, but I know lots of people like a smaller-diameter wheel.

Thanks to all who gave information, I now have the stock steering wheel back on with horn working. I like it better for a couple of reasons, I can see the speedometer much better, bigger wheel easier to turn wheel and just prefer to be more stock.

Also who ever put the moto steering wheel on did not have the tap lined up correctly so one blinker did not cancel automatically, so that is also working now that I have the stock wheel on again.
