Who Insures your Porsches?
I had my '37 olds insured by Hagerty but they wouldn't insure my 928. They had no problem insuring the new 914. But even with 2 P-cars I am still having difficulty getting them to insure the 928- I'm trying to get them to see it as a "collection." Are there any other companies you guys have had good luck with along with reasonable rates? Right now with Hagerty the 914 has full coverage for $120/year but that only allows 1000 miles. Once I get her going I'll raise it to 5000 miles.

Progressive-$280/6 months primary car
I know this is a lot more than your deal before but I am 23 so it's getting cheaper for me every year. |

Oh, so I'm an old man?!!!
I'm 26 so I imagine the price difference is mostly due to the fact being that is insured as your primary vehicle. My primary is much higher as well.

Don't tell Hagerty that you want to drive the 914 5000 miles per year. They don't want to insure cars that are driven more than 3000. I originally told them 5000 miles per year (it's one of the check boxes on the form) and they called me telling me they couldn't approve my application. I then explained that I just got the car and I put 5000 miles down to be safe but that I thought I'd drive it much less. The thing is, I don't think they ever asked for an odometer reading anyway and they don't ask for yearly readings.

What we need is an insurance that you can turn on and off-so the months of the year that the old girl is in holed up sick in the garage it doesn't cost anything!

Mine's a whopping $90 at Hagerty. Free towing, agreed-upon value, year-round coverage...as long as you don't use it as a daily driver it's a great deal.
Anthony's right, they don't want you to drive more than 3k/yr. They have not asked me for an odometer reading either, but I'm way under anyway.

My problem is that I will regularly use the 914 as my primary transportation to and from work. As such, I plan on putting 7 or 8000 miles a year on it. My insurance will only sell me collision. The collector car places only do low mileage stuff. Is there an alternative short of fibbing?

Are they available nationwide? Or have a web site? Many insurance companies don't seem to like us here in NC...

Does anyone know of any gotchas with insurance from places like Hagerty?
I've had great service from them so far but I've never filed a claim. When you read all their fine print it sounds like unless the car sits in your garage every night, you might not be covered. I was wondering that if I took an overnight trip some day and the car wasn't parked in my garage during the trip whether I would be covered. |

I live in Michigan, checked the rates for my 914-6, 914-4 and 74 911.
I just checked Hagarty insurance, they wanted $485 per year for all three. The BIG problem that I see with Hagarty is their damage limits. 20,000/40,000. ![]() That won't even cover running into the back of a 911 Turbo ![]()

I have my 914 insured through Parish Heacock (Great American is the insurance carrier) with an agreed value policy and $100,000/$300,000 liability limits. I selected 3000 miles per year and my premium is $137 annually. I had previously had it insured through Leland West but they could not write the liability insurance in NC so I had to carry a separate liability policy with State Farm which was expensive. Dont know their prices for additional miles per year but at least they can write liability in NC which like Brian says "insurance companies dont like us here in NC!"
