need some diagnosis help

I am havig trouble with my engine Before i start tearing it apart i was wondering if you guys could give me some advice? I have a 1.8l with 40mm dellortos on it. the problem i am having is that when the car is cold it runs great but once it warms up it runs like crap. it feels like i hit a brick wall no power. you start it and start driving it has alot of power. 10 to 15 min later when the car is warmed up it runs out of power and really doesnt perform at all. what could this be. it doesnt apear to be overheating from what my temp gauge shows. i just need some help. thank you in advance for any help that you can give.

Curt,

One possibilty is fuel pressure - aka fuel pump. This could be due to a faulty pump or faulty wiring that degrades as system heats up. Its been a while since I ran a 914 with carbs, so perhaps someone with current experience will chime in.

You haven't said how long since there was a full tunup, including valve adjust? Try a cold then hot compression test, then ignition wire resistance cold and hot and then the other things required for a tune up. Good luck.

Curt-
I have a 73 with weber 40's. It started exhibiting different throttle response as it warmed up, and a rebuild of the carbs (well, really just disassembled, cleaned everything, replaced idle and air corrector jets) brought back performance in spades. How long since you replaced fuel filter? I'm not familliar with dells, but it couldn't be very different. I would look closely at the carbs before I tore it apart.
