Injector Disassembly
 

Is it possible to disassemble the D-Jet injectors for cleaning? I have a set of injectors that all have poor spray patterns. How can I clean these injectors so they spray better?

Check for a shop in your area that has a bench cleaning system for injectors. My buddy has had a few cars done at a local shop and reported a noticable gain in power and milage. If you can't find a place local I have seen some injector shops online that do this service.

Have you ever ran any BG 44K through your system and see if that makes any changes in you injector flow?

I've built a FI tester that I've used to run Techron cleaner through the injectors without improvement. But I wouldn't expect this type of 30 year old crud to just wash away.

Can the injectors be immersed in cleaner? I was thinking of using an ultrasonic jewlery cleaner to try and loosen some of the grit, but I want to make sure I won't damage anything. (i.e. make sure I'm not being stupid)

When I was in college we had a vender come in with a fuel injector test and cleaning machine. It used ultrasonic cleaners to get the junk out of the injectors. One of the guys in the class donated his injectors from his honda with over 200,000 miles. They came out of the cleaning bath with a great spray pattern.

I have heard that the ultra sonic jewelry cleaner thing works, and you do submerge them.

Mark, What kind of power input do you use to open the injectors?
I found an old Lionel train transformer that has an adjustable rheostat. It can be swtched from AC to DC.
Hooked up the volt meter and dialed up 2.3V. Plug in the injectors and the injectors open for cleaning.

For the first run (I just finished building it) I used a D cell battery, so only 1.5 volts. Eventually I'll move up to something better. I have a bunch of push button switches I'm going to hook up to control each injector individually. I'll also be hooking up my oscilloscope soon to check out the voltages I should be using. Maybe next week, I changed out my alternator today. I also got an ultrasonic jewlery cleaner today at the local Salvation Army and buzzed one of my bad injectors. I haven't hooked it back up for testing yet, but my new toy unexpectedly stopped working. Hopefully I didn't waste $2.50! :D

If I recall correctly, a ~5V initial "spike" starts the injector open, and a ~3V level keeps them open.
