Gear shift still rocks

I changed the motor mounts a couple days ago and took care of the banging when taking off fast but the gear shift still rocks back & forth when I let off the gas & then give it gas. Does this mean the tranny mounts are bad? I hesitated putting too much torque on the mounting nuts for fear of breaking the bolts. Same goes for the bolts & nuts for the engine bar. I couldn't find a torque value anywhere on the posts on here or in the manual. Any one have ideas?

Bruce,

http://dgi.net/914/tech/torque.html

Maybe that will help with torque questions.
Hard to say about tranny mounts. Is the linkage and all that up to snuff?

Hey Chris, thanks for the torque settings. I saved those golden babies! I'll have to check with my new torque wrench!!! I'm not sure of the linkage and I'll need to find out what to check & how. Got any ideas?

Probably the rear mounts are going, switch em to the "sport" mounts.

I just looked at the Pelican catalog for a price on the mounts... Geeze, they're sure alot more spendy than the motor mounts. I think I'll take your advice Geoff & go with the sport mounts. Gotta check to see if I really need 'em first.......

Holy Cow Eric! Talk about dredging up the past

This post is from April of 2003 I ended up pulling the engine after blowing it up (sucked an exhaust valve) and installing a 2.0. The tranny mounts were fine so I din't do the sport mount thing.

Eric, how did you revive this thread from so long ago???
Must'a done a search for sumthin??

Yea, I was doing a search for threads needing closure, and I found this one.

I forgot about you switching motors.

Ok, I'm off to find another thread in need of closure!

(actually I was searching for tranny mounts)
