2L owners in Atlanta PLEASE READ
Hey folks,
Well in a continuing quest to get my '73 2L up and running I'm posting an open request for help. Basically I've completely run out of options on my Fuel Injection. I've: Run the FI diag. (no dice) Rented the tester from PP (everything tests green here) Run the car on a sniffer and foud she's starving. Before the rebuild the 914 ran like a champ, ok a very tired one. But the FI was FLAWLESS in it's operation. I've checked the harness and everything else as best I can. I'm left with a very small set of possibilities, leading is the Manifold Pressure sensor. So I'm looking for a soul here in Atlanta or the surrounding areas with a 2L that would let me test my FI with their Manifold Pressure sensor. This is the part I'm most suspect of but seeing as I've just rebuilt the 2L I'm damn near smak out of funds. I'll buy one IF I can determine it's needed. The easiest way is plug a known working part in and see if the thing corrects the mixture. I'm willing to compensate, toss you a few buck, for your time and I will be very responsible with the part. Please take a second and think if you can help me out. . . I'm really trying everything I can before being exiled to AA. . . I shudder to think what could happen. So please email me if you think you can be of help. I'd really appriciate a helping hand here. Peace Ian ian_griswold@hotmail.com GO BRAVES!!!! |

I have recently put a 2L in my car and am running carbs because my cam is too big. I have a complete 1.7 injection system. I don't know if the pressure sensors are the same but if you would like to borrow mine I can ship it to you. I live in California. Just e-mail me and we can talk.

I used a Mity-Vac and tested the pressure controller I think you are talking about. I pluged the normal vac line and started the car with about 16 inches of vac already drawn on the controller and them raised and lowered the pressure and you could easily hear the engine mixture change. That will tell you if it is working and changing according to intake vacuum, not necessarily if it is providing the correct signal.

Ian,
I was thinking. You mentioned that your engine is starving for fuel. Have you checked the fuel pressure? If the return line and the pressure line are reversed, this could be a problem... I am not sure. If you like, can drive up to Spartanburg SC and try my manifold pressure sensor. I also have a couple of spares of unknown condition. (my engine is being build my Pelican [great guys there] at this time and I am unable to test). I hope that this helps... ------------------ Smoke Daddy |

Guys,
Thanks for the ideas and suggestions. A fellow teener, Bill Moore, here in Atlanta let me test with his MPS last night. I'd like to publicly thanks him for this, as it showed that my MPS is indeed screwed. So I'll be trying to recalibrate this weekend. This may or may not pan out, depending on whether the MPS I have is ust out of cal or trash. Still I like to say thanks to everyone for the suggestions and offers. This is a nice community that y'all've created here. Ian BTW I'm just gushing about never having to deal with AA. I had almost given up and was going to FORCE myself to let them lay hands on my baby! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! sigh.... |
