Surging under acceleration and a constant throttle
 

So I searched this one too.....

Initially it was only surging under steady throttle, so after reading everysingle post in the archives and doing the tests of unplugging the throttle switch I replaced it.

I bought it and put it in....I made an attempt to calibrate it ...hahaha that was interesting, so when I went to OTTO'S in Venice they adjusted that along with all sorts of other stuff. My car was all fixed up for the most part ...got rid of the surging bug.

-Fast forward to saturday night, I grab my girlfriend and we put on our jackets and take a midnight blast down PCH. First twenty minutes the car runs like a incredibly well - it was a great night for our drive. After the the twenty minute mark it was surging and acting all f--ed up under acceleration and a constant. The Temperature wasnt hot it was like 50 degrees out and I was driving normal speeds and not lugging around in high gears--- I read not to do that in the WHERE DO YOU SHIFT thread. I just had to drive around the problem, stopping at lights it would hesitate and act all dicked up and then in third and fourth while at a cruising speed all the sudden it would just start jerking around.

-Now all of this is AFTER the new throttle switch and the adjustment at OTTO'S, any suggestion as to the issue, and a remedy for it would be appreciated.

ONE more thing----

Where do I get the gauge the reads in numbers for the engine temp instead of that damn mystery sweep in the three gauge cluster in the center console for a 73 --the part number and deatails would help me if I have change out the sensor as well as the gauge

Throttle Positioning Switch....aka TPS

I just replaced the switch and had OTTO'S recalibrate it. Any other suggestions

Check for all possible vacuum leaks.

Check the distributor (advance may be sticking, the diaphragm could be comprimised, the bushings may be going south [a compufire might help with this])

Could also be your MPS. take it to Otto's and have them see if it holds a proper vacuum.

"Bucking" is caused by usually one of these three things.
1. TPS worn contacts
2. Worn distributor-wobble in the center shaft, sticking adv plate, bad points
3. Bad FI points

Check these 3 out because they are the usual supects in the problem.

Andrew, did you tell them a plug wire came off?

no, no, this was after that day Otto. This was Saturday night, the plug wires are secure. I checked them out tonight. It still is acting strange. But anyways if it matters at all the plug wire came off last wedensday or thursday I dont know if that matters now since I put it back on and this happened on saturday, but I'm just looking for ideas.
