'74 1.8 project - need help with a value
A good friend of mine recently left us after a short battle with stage 4 cancer. I am helping his wife sell a few of his cars…..80's Doka, Spec Boxster and a 74 914. It’s the 914 I'd like some feedback on.
He bought the 74 914 1.8 (fuel injection intact) a couple of years ago and about 6 months ago started to take it apart to restore the car. The odometer shows 76k…..no idea how many miles are on it. The 1.8 is pulled, ready for some TLC (he was going to take it to 2056). The body is in fair shape, needs a fresh coat of IG. He recently had a well known shop repair a few areas of rust so it can be considered rust free. The car has steel rims/black metal bumpers. It has to be sold as a project since the motor/trans etc. is out and the body needs some love/paint. My guess is the suspension would need an overhaul as well. The 2020-2021 Excellence Buyers guide has a $9k - $15k range but that it obviously for a running car. What do you think would be a fair price for such a car as is? I have considered it myself and building a 916 clone but my rough estimate sees me into it for way over $50k and that's doing it myself and I'm not sure I'm ready for that level of project. Thanks for your feedback. |
$3-4k

Is the engine just out of the car or is the engine disassembled. It doesn't take long to put the engine back in a 914.
It would sell for more if it is running and driving. There was a similar situation with a 944 in Phoenix. A member of Rennlist died and his widow was trying to sell his 944 project. Some dirt bag tried to low ball her so a few guys got together and put the car back together and helped her sell it for a fair price. |
Good question azbanks, I "think" that is is just out but I really don't know. A couple of us are going over at the weekend to pick up his spec boxster to photo it so we can get it ready for BAT. I'll try to learn a little more at that time. Thanks for your feedback!
