Side shifter conversion parts list
Going to convert a 72 1.7 from tail shift to side shift. We have the gearbox and the engine mount already.
Is the following list complete? Shifter assembly Linkage from front to side Elbow connector on the gearbox Cover/boot protector Assuming parts should come from 73 and newer? Going to do new engine and transmission mounts and bushings. Anything else I’m forgetting? Thanks! |
Gear shift lever, front and rear shift rod, cover for the coupler at the firewall, cover for the rod head at the transmission end, side shift console, motor mount bar, outboard solid mounts for the bar, inboard rubber mounts for the bar, brackets for the inboard mounts, converter bushing for the firewall hole. I think that's what you need.
Aftermarket bearings for the hole in the firewall offer more precision and less slop than the stock bushings. The double-shear modification for the shift rod head at the center console also offers less slop and more support. If Pelican doesn't have those in the catalog, you can check Tangerine Racing for these parts. It's a pretty major modification, but it takes a lot of slop out of the system! --DD |
Much appreciated Dave!
