(1) Always have extra hose end fittings and extra hose when plumbing your new oil cooler.
(2) Just because there is 1/4 tank of gas in the tank (according to eyeball mk.1 and fuel guage) doesn't mean you can't really be out of gas... you just have your fuel pump and filter mounted too high. (2.5) An in-line fuel pressure guage reading zero really means you are out of gas. (3) Measuring twice and cutting once only works if you're measuring correctly ("Grrrr! It's still too long!"). (4) Too long is way better than too short! (5) Dremel and electrical tape works great on ss hose ...and, as a bonus, you get the smell of burning rubber!!!! (6) Sunny weather w/roof off makes it all okay...when you've got gas again

Rule #1 for the 914...
Have plenty of hand cleaner... Rule #2 for the 914... please refer to rule #1. At the recent togethereness in Long Beach we all compared fingernails. All had some amount of 914 in them. We were all pretty proud of it.

When you are doing a the 4-5 lug conversion and find out you lost the last few pages of the P Parts tech article...THEN you decide to go online and just print them out.... #9-if you just put an expensive suspension or engine component in, dont say anything to your spouse or sig. other. They prolly wont notice it

#11 make sure the distributor is pushed all the way down into the hole and the clamp is properly tightened. Don'y leave it just snug enough so that you can make small adjustments to the timing.
It is really embarrasing when the cog on the bottom of the dizzy pops out of the slot and momentarily catches 180 out, it's even worse when you are at 5500 rpm under 7 psi boost. Talk about a backfire. I swear the entire rear of the car jumped a foot into the air. |

#12, get a BIG red light for the oil pressure and use a switch for 15#!

#13, learn to read the gas gauge. "4/4" stands for full. "R" stands for "Roadside assistance."

#14, #13 VOID in the case of (2) above (love the "Roadside Assistance") ![]() #15, #9 chancy if UPS delivers to your home.... #16, ANY 914 part comes off easily: if you don't want it to. #17, Always stretch out before contorting yourself into 914-yoga positions

#18 Buy oil by the case...you'll need it
#19 Invest in an oil drip pan, and/or lots of kitty litter #20 Never and I mean never tell spouse/sig other what something really cost...typical answer a couple of dollars #21 blame all the packages that UPS delivers on 19 year old sons car project or ebay habit
