linkage at throttle pedal
New to Porsche... have a 1975 914-4. Went to start it up after sitting for the winter and the pedal went to the floor and didn't come back. Found the rod connecting the pedal to the throttle cable. I see that it is a cup on the rod that fits over a spherical knob on the pivot that connects to the cable. For the life of me I cannot get the cup back over that knob. I've cleaned both, greased the cup, but no joy. Is there some trick I'm missing?
I suspect the throttle cable is sticky and that's the root cause of the rod popping off, but haven't got that far yet. |

Some of the "cup" fittings have a "spring lock pin" that needs to be removed before popping the cup over the ball, and then returned to lock it in place. This pin is very small and very different design compared to the clip that keeps the clutch cable in place.

I looked at the exploded diagram to see if there was a pin, and realized my problem. The pivot on the pedal assembly had bent to the right so that the knob was no longer in line with the rod on the pedal. I was able to bend it back and connect everything up. So thanks to Porsche 2 for getting to look closer!
