Odometer problem, sort of
 

About 3 years ago i purchased a nicely rebuilt speedometer in Germany, to substitute the one on my 914 which was failing. It worked great until recently, when the odometer stiopped working, but only at high temperatures. After cooling down, it workes well again.

I guess that somewhere between the cable and the number wheels something is slipping at higher temperatures and sticks again at lower temperatures.
Any ideas how to deal with this, without opening the speedometer (wishful thinking, as I have done this on VDO instruents before for other checks and I really didn't like it)?

The odometer is of great use for me, as my 914 is an electric conversion, and the odometger is a good help for determining the charge left before needing to recharge the batteries.

It's probably the pot-metal gear inside the odometer mechanism slipping on its shaft. If you let it go, eventually the odometer will completely stop.
