How much does the bare chassis weigh?

I just about got my chassis stripped down. All that is left is the wheels, brakes, and suspension. I have to do a lot of welding to fix the rust damage. I need to keep the car mobile because I don't have enough room in my garage to work on it so I have to be able to move it out onto the driveway. That is why I have kept the wheels on it to this point. I looked at building a rotisserie but since I'm doing a lot of the rust repair in the mid section of the car it might not be a good idea. But it sill might be the best route because it provides mobility plus I can spin it get to the bottom. Anyways, whatever the contraption is I build to hold the chassis while I work, I'm trying to figure out how you get the chassis on it. For example the rotisserie, it's 4-5 feet off the ground. Once I get it all stripped down, how much does it weigh? could 2 people pick it up why another bolts it to the rotisserie. Or do you have to jack it up real high and then put it on? I would also like to know what other people used to hold the chassis while they are working on it.

Thanks

9fourteen,

To answer your questions about what others use, I would suggest a search on "rotisserie." I know I have read several posts in the last 1.5 years on the subject.

Second. My best guess on the weight would be approx 1500 lbs is what you're rotisserie should need to hold. There are methods of jacking the car from each end, steadily increasing the height using a platform of cinder blocks until you get it to the height needed to mount it to the rotisserie. This is generally done at the bumper mounting spots fore & aft. So the swing radius of the rotisserie is determined by 1/2 the width of the car, plus some clearance. This total width is also the height you will need to get the car off the ground & mounted to the rotisserie - assuming its vertical supports are fixed (they could function like a jack themselves, but this is more involved).

Hope this helps.

I'd say a bare chassis without doors or suspension is in the 500 lb range...I pulled mine out of the garage and onto my trailer by myself....

I was beat when finished, but I was determined to do it....
