74 2.0 FUEL PUMP
I have read all the previous information on fuel pump problems and checked everything possible. I can make the pump run by jumping the poles on the relay board or by jumping a ground to the white wire (1 of 4) that runs from the relay board to the ECU, but the pump will run continuosly, not for 2 seconds and stop like normal. I renewed the ground connection at the engine block, cleaned the connections in the ECU, checked all relays and fuses. HELP

I looked at the wiring diagram, and I'm not sure why you would want to mess with giving a ground to the 4 prong connector. It 'might' fry the brain (I dunno, maybe I'm just paranoid). What you want to do is, if giving a ground to that connector( I don't see how, but if you say so, I'll believe it) kicks the pump over I'd suspest the pump's ground is bad. On the pump are two wires. One is brown and is the ground (BTW the ground point for the pump on pre-75 cars is under the relay board), the other is blk/red stripe, it is +12V. They go on a specific way, the pump is labeled, but it is hard to see with it in the car. Test the ground to see if it has continuity. Then test the blk/red to see if it get +12V when the key is first turned. Beyond that I'd maybe rent Pelican's EFI tester and see if the brain is fried. |
