Newbie post web site

I've put together a little website to chronicle the history and restoration of my 914-6.

Enjoy!

WOW!!

That was alot of work. The end product shows your attention to details and how empty you wallet must now be :)

Cheers

paging Doctor Frankenstien... I fell out of my chair when viewing the rustoration pictures. The car was technically not a car at one point. My hat is off...

ya I'm sure amazed, looks great

Va914 05-21-2003 05:40 PM

I too think the RUSToration was crazy..The end product is very nice but was there a reason you didn't just find a cleaner shell?

Don't get me wrong it looks great but I think most of us (well at least me) would have ran from a project like yours. Cutting the whole front clip off WOW!! It still seems crazy ;)

I believe we have a new rust king (sorry Lawrence) :)

Let me just say that I am impressed. No way in heck I would spend that much time and effort repairing a chassis. Did I mention I am impressed?

I do have one question tho.......
if you're going to basically buid a car from scratch, why not a 917 instead of a 914? just kidding. Car looks great.

Absolutely INSANE. I would of just found a clean body.
I guess its true how the saying goes, were there's a will there's a way. Congratulations on an outstanding job.\

HACK JOB Randel..........you should be ashamed of yourself!!!

Randel 05-22-2003 05:15 AM

Why?

Thanks for the kind words on the site and the car. Some of you have asked, and many have probably thought...why? Why didn't he just use a better shell?

I did describe the process as an odyssey, and in hindsight, I can't defend my decisions as rational or prudent, but keep in mind that:

1.- 10 years ago, when much of the bodywork was done, browser-based Internet was in its infancy. There were far fewer marketplace and technical resources available, and nothing like this amazing forum.

2. - It started life as a 6.

3. - It was owned by Reeves Callaway

4. - I suppose that I could have passed on the 6 altogether in 1992, spent the $1200 on shares of Cisco, and bought an SUV with the proceeds...but then I'd have no story to tell.

Some have also commented that I need to be "on da floor". Comments? Guidelines? Critical measurements?

Clearly I get a little closer da floor when I put my 6'4" 240lb self behind the wheel.

Cheers!
