Sloppy Tach
My tach is really bouncy/sloppy, is this normal, or do I need a replacement?

Mine too! Sometimes it's fine, other times it's bouncing all over the place, mostly while at speed. I haven't looked into it yet but was figuring on checking grounds. Also my distibutor's noisy (squeaky) and has a fair amount of wobble so I wonder if that has to do with it.

Tach is driven by the ignition points. If the tach is sloppy when not shifting (i.e. it bounces with no apparent reason) then you need new points.
If the tach bounces a lot between shifts (i.e. a lack of damping) then the inside of the tach is probably dirty and you can either have your current tach cleaned or get another tach. Aaron

Many times you have to chop off the old connector and crip on new one... as well as clean the posts. You'll notice the copper wire starts to corrode... and with heat, connectivity decreases... so you'll get more bouncy when the engine is warm.
