long studs at home?
My 914 has a 5 lug conversion with redrilled stock rotors and pressed in studs. The problem is that the studs are too short for my liking and two of them are broken off by about 3 or 4 mm. Is it possible to remove the shorter studs and install longer ones in my own workshop? What special tools do I need? A press of some kind or can I use a vise or hammer?
Also, I don't know yet if the rear studs have been tack welded to the hub. If that is the case, I will have to send them out anyway. Regards, dr |

Grind the tack welds off yourself. I pressed in my own studs with a hydrualic press. It has been said that you can "pull" them in with a lug nut and a stack of washers or a spacer. I would say the fronts are easier going into aluminum hubs, but the rears are more accesable in the back for a little more "persuasion."
