I'm paranoid, but that doesn't mean they aren't after me...
call me a wimp or what ever... I need to get my 1.7(white one) to Austin(3-4 hours away)... where my parents live and the red car will be soon... I'm leaving July 3rd, late after noon.... I am paranoid about the car over heating in the heat already, but the fact I have a burnt valve I'm really paranoid...
I don't have a temp gauge, and I don't trust the wiring on the car well enough to trust the light...esp since I think that gauge in the cluster is questionable.... is there a way to stop and do a spot check on temp... like a turkey thermometer to the head? ( I told you not to laugh!) everyone can flame me... but I just need 1 person to answer this... so stop laughing just for a sec... btw... I have the 1.7 heads coming soon, they will be here before then... thanks to Korijo!!! |
This idea might be as big of a strech as your delimma, but here goes:
If you have a high-end digital meter (like a Fluke), you might be able to get a thermocouple to attach to it. Route the wires into the cabin and it would be like having a temp gauge. It might be cost prohibitive. I have no clue what it would run, but it might give someone else a brainstorm. Even it would work, I'm not the right guy to tell you where to stick it! ;) |
that's cool, I think I am gonna play it safe though, and just not drive it down there... I will tow it SOMEHOW...
|
What? You don't trust us idiots on 914club? Tow it? Now where did you get that idea?
Just kidding. Honest, I wouldn't push it. Sounds like you're itching to drive the car, but like others said, you can do more harm than good. Tow your baby over, get the heads replaced. Check other things while you are in there.. rings, clutch, shift bushings, etc. She'll feel like new. Good luck! |
that's the plan man... I trust you guys fine, I know most of the pepole are in both places... I posted on shoptalk too... it never hurts to get extra opinions... everyone had different ideas
I was skeptical to drive it to begin with... but I was trying to save my dad the trouble of coming up here and getting it... he has a trailer it will fit on and a 1-ton truck to pull it... but I was trying to keep him from having to take off 1-2 days of work |
