Saving my rear trunk lid

Eventually, I will need to replace my rear trunk lid because I have basically ruined my existing lid by laying on it when working on the engine.

It appears to me that you need to be a midget to do any work on a 914 (virtually every area of the car).

I was wondering if anyone out ther has any tips on preventing damage to the rear trunk lid while working on the car. I always lay a blanket over it but I still cause the metal to pop/dent when I'm on it.

Don't say Diet & Excercise - I already know that (lol)

Any advice would be greeatly appreciated,

Vern

you could always just not lay on it, and if you absolutely had to work like that take off the trunk lid, it's not that hard to get off.

You can do pretty much everything by leaning over the side of the car. Careful not to lean on the fenders too hard either.

The first time I worked on a 914 I thought you had to remove the trunk also and climb in. That must have looked funny. You get used to the limited access and pretty soon it feels normal to be reaching in from the sides.
