Headlight options
What do you guys/gals think of headlight conversions? I got this picture from www.dgi.net/914 it is an early prototype 914. I think the headlights look pretty cool. How hard would this be to recreate?
Any other ideas? Do you think the headlight assy. out of a 93+ camaro would work? How about headlights from a 996? [This message has been edited by 72_914 (edited 10-29-1999).] |

i saw some somewhere where they took the headlights out of a geo and put them in the stock location for the driving lights. it's that one page where they made the ultra light 914... i don't remember the URL though. then they just made the hood take up the space where the pop up ones were.

It is more than just a headlight conversion. Look at the lines on the fenders and trunk. major body work there.
One of the reasons for the pop up lights was federal standards on headlight height from the ground. That setup was below the minimum. I have seen a smooth front end with barn burner lights set in the area where the fogs should have been, looked cool, but the owner admitted that they really were not functional being that low. |

The 914 Lite Page you are looking for is:
http://home1.gte.net/nugentmd/914lite.htm "Complete headlight assemblies replaced with ultra-lightweight plastic HP4666 rectangular high/low beam halogen bulbs in buckets from a Geo Metro mounted in stock foglight positions ." - Dave |

Actually that strongly resembles the car that I have seen, but not the same one. I checked with a Highway Patrol buddy and his comment was ... illegal...

Actually, I have always thought that THE headlight upgrade to make would be one to replace the single headlamp with two side by side headlamps like the prototype 914/8 in the Porsche museum. I've wondered and thought it might be easy enough for a person with the right skills, to simply retrofit 2 recessed and retracting stock headlight buckets for the conversion.
Any thoughts? |

Hey! Nice Rack! "Celette"

I kinda like the projection lamps on the Strocek(sp) 911. The car at the top of the page looks like a chevy monza to me. Maybe you could use hood and lights.

Why couldn't projector lights be mounted where the turn signals are? Is there enough room inside the fenders for the assembly?
