Subwoofer in a 914

I'd like to have a sub in my car, just a little one would be nice, has anyone done this, or does anyone know one that would fit somewhere

I have seen several people use bass tubes in front of the passenger seat. I myself am going to make a box to fit in the area on the floor where I removed the foam thing under the front passenger floor board and I will be running one 8" facing the center of the car. This will still leave the passenger plenty of leg room and I wont have to worry about them sticking their foot through the woofer. I will post pictures when I get it done.

a box can also be build to go under the dash, pointing to the floor, on the pass. side... hidden!

an 8" or 10" would be about the biggest you could go...

there's some good pictures there..

My installaton looks like this...

I built my own box and it uses a 6 inch sub. Certainly won't give you a ton of bass, but it sounds pretty decent.

Skline, That's the best idea I've heard. I'm gonna make one. It would be neat if you could use the orig foam as a mold for a new fiberglass speaker inclosure.

The way I am doing it is as follows, I am going to start with a 12" wide 3/8 particle board for the face and cut it to match the contour of the firewall which will take it down considerably, and then use another piece to go across the floor board which will be carpeted to match to floor where the passenger can put their feet. Then I will cut my hole for the woofer and mount it on the inside so it does not stick out from the box. I will take rubber sponge ribbing and attach it to the entire side that makes contact with the floor and firewall to seal it. I am using a free air woofer which will work well with or without ports. I should have enough air space inside the box to make it hit pretty good. The sound will all be inside the car. To anyone looking into the car they wont even be able to tell it is there or see it. I will let you all know how it comes out.

Here are some pics of mine. I used the foam pad there for a mold for my fiberglass & built of of that! Worked out great although for the 10" sub it has to be a little big. When I do another one I will just use a good 8" sub so it can sit closert to the stock foot pad!

I saw one mounted to the side of the center console once. I thought that looked really good.

My car started life as a '73 1.7 with the storage bin instead of the Appearence Group guage console. I removed the storage bin and reproduced it in 3/4 inch birch plywood. I mounted and 8" sub in the side that faces the passengers feet. I covered it in that "monkey fur" stuff and it worked out great. I does not intrude into the car in any way and I even built a small "very small"storage area in the lover front of the box that can hold lighters, pens, etc and it doubles as a port for the sub. Many of todays subs are not real dependent on cabinet volume and this setup sounds great.

Unfortunately RedBeard your dual sub would kick my 2.0 in no time flat. Thanks for reminding me of my inferiority in still driving a 4. I almost went the week without 6envy!
