6 vs 4 cyl
Just returned from the National Porsche Parade in Tampa. Great time. I autocrossed my 914, a Jake Raby powered 1.8, 4 cyl.
Not only did I take a first in class, but managed to best the times of all but 10 of the more then 300+ Porsches at the Parade. The 1.8 worked to perfection. Although my car was built for SCCA F Production racing, it sure embarrassed many Boxsters, 911's and V8 928s. Who says you need six cylinders? Mark |
CONGRATULATION!!!

Thats exactly what I say time after time!! Nobody believes it till I SHOW THEM what can be done with a CORRECTLY MODIFIED MassIVe TIV engine...
Marks little 1800 is a beast it has every trick I know inside of it, and a few that I have never tried before to boot! Its built by the book too! |
yikes... that's soo cool.. which Raby engine did you get?
|
The F-Production 1.8 liter.
Think "MassIVe RPMs"... --DD |
Hmmn, his is not a "Version" engine...Its a custom configuration based on SCCA rules.....Every now and then I decide to work on a full on race engine!
|
Jake, do you have some dyno graphs of this motor on your web site or are those numbers a "trade secret"?
Alfred |
more power = more fun!
It doesn't matter how many cylinders you have!!! |
Can't give any dyno numbers on this one........The competition is everywhere!
|
For a competitive FP motor, figure over 160 HP. The locals in this area have thrown around numbers from 160 to 195 HP out of a 1.8 liter.
Very high compression, spinning very quickly. Lots of money into those motors. No cooling fan to speak of, just the alternator belt pulley part and the four posts. Gets cooling air from the headlight buckets, ducted to the fan inlet with a "sewer pipe" through the cockpit. Two dual-throat 40mm carbs are required as the induction--period. Nothing remotely resembling a street motor. --DD |
