fitting of LE spoiler
I am in the process of fitting an LE spoiler purchased from our host. When I line up the two center holes and place the spoiler tabs against the metal of the car, the next two tabs on the spoiler (the ones approx below the headlights) are in line with the holes in the body, but are about 3/4" away from the body. Also, the spots where the spoiler would attach to the lower fenders are about 1-1/2" outboard of the fender. Do these things have to be rather seriously tweaked to make them fit, or do I have a problem here? I know there are aprox 10mm rubber spacers under the fender attaching points, but are there also rubber spacers on the 4 front attaching points or do they go hard against the body? I'm hoping to have an answer to mount it tomorrow. Thanks in advance - WD

Tweek, tweek, tweek, welcome to the world of fiberglass parts. When I put my front spoilers on I use some clamping pliers on the sides to let me pull them in and hold them. Of course that makes the front bow out and if I remember corectly I used some spacers on our 1974 with a LE type of spoiler. All are different and it will be a bit of work but doable. Good luck

My LE spoiler is a pain. I hate it. I have it off for repair right now since I hit a curb, and I'm not looking foward to putting it back on...

Spacers are the answer to the ones below the headlights. Sounds like you will have to force the ones on the side. Mine isn't the LE though it is the ABS one that is unbreakable from those guys in GA. It was cast pretty well and all the holes lined up well. I only needed spacers for the holes under the headlights. All others mounter directly to the surfaces. I specifically got it because it was unbreakable.

I scraped mine pretty good on a steep driveway so I have it off right now to recondition and repair. I bought mine from PP also and I thought the tabs just wouldn't be able to handle a cone or a curb. I reinforced the tabs with self-fabbed stainless steel brackets that are sandwiched around the fiberglass and riveted together (imagine a laminate of stainless bracket/resin/fiberglass/resin/stainless, riveted together) This made the spoiler mounts super strong and I have been able to subject it to quite a lot of track abuse and I'm pretty happy with the way it has held up. I'm positive that had I not reinforced the mounting tabs, I would have torn the thing off at least a year ago.
To get the thing to mount properly I did use 1/4 inch spacers for the 4 tabs across the front.

Thanks for the help... I used 1/4" rubber spacers, too, and it seems to mount up pretty well. Now I need help with the bumper alignment (separate thread)!
