cylinder head attachment questions
i'm about to pull my motor to fix a leaking valve. This motor was rebuilt under 1k miles ago, and i'm thinking it was leaking from the gitgo.
my question is, how should i treat this head. I would never reuse a head gasket, but this has none. Do i need to get it flycut again if i don't find evidence of a leaking seal with the cylinder? Is some valve grind compound on the mating surfaces enough? Also, what about retorqueing the heads, good idea or bad idea? If so, how long between the servicing? I'd appreciate some experienced voices here. |
Try the lapping compound. Twist the cylinder into the head recess and see if there are any high or low spots.
VW and Porsche never called for re-torquing the heads. Some people I know like to do that after the first 5,000 miles, but then they pretty much get left alone. --DD |
And you have to pull the sheet metal to do it. Which means pulling the induction. Might as well pull the motor.
