Bus 2.0 engine?????
 

My alignment mechanic has a complete VW bus engine sitting in the back of his truck, complete with injection and exhaust. He pulled it out of his daughters bus. He said it was smoking bad, and using alot of oil. So he just pulled it and put in a new one.

I am toying with the idea of buying it for upgrade parts for my 74 1.8. Would any of the 2.0 bus parts be worth anything to me? How about the good 2.0 crank and rods? He felt the heads were shot, but ???

Let me know if I should offer him anything for it.

Actually, the whole dang engine is useful if it can be relatively easily cured.

The heads are "worse" (i.e., less high-performance oriented) than any of the 914 heads. Ditto the pistons. Most of the rest is fine--particularly crank and rods.

a vanagon could be considered a bus. check for oval exhaust ports or square exhaust ports. 914's have oval. vanagons had 2 liters when air cooled.

Sounds good, I'll try to score it. What would it be worth used? Worn out, but running.

if it's a bus engine and running, it's probably L-jet :>) to put in a 914 you have to put in a new dipstick and if it's a vanagon, block off the oil filler. worn out would be a core motor $2-400 but that's a guess. could be an educational motor (learn by taking apart) but by your list of vehicles, i'd guess you're beyond that.

Way beyond the educational phase.

I am thinking about pulling it apart for parts. Usint the 2.0 crank and rods in my 1.8 with big bore cylinders and my stock injection.

All the parts I do not use, sell on ebay.

hmmmm, a bus engine in a 914. My dad almost put a 914 engine in a bus. That's gotta mean somewhere along the lines parts are interchangable, right? Good luck!
