help identifying these Konis's

Hi Guys

This is probably a long shot, but....

I am trying to identify the rear Koni shocks that are on the rear of our '73 2.0. I also have an identical set of spares. Both need to be rebuilt and I am trying to figure out if its worth it, at least on one pair.

I looked at Pelicans catalog under Konis and also at the Koni site itself. None of the numbers seem to match up.

So, I dont know what I have. Who knows, these could be the optional Konis that Porsche offered when the car was new.

Anyway here goes.

Shocks are red.

Numbers and other info found on shocks are as follows.

82K 1722
Heavy Turn
Special D
Made in USA

Thats it.

What have I got?
What performance type are they?
Any good if rebuilt

Thanks guys, greatly appreciate it

Curt

You probably have the old adjustable koni racing shocks or "collapse to adjust", Koni Reds. The "heavy turn" should also have an arrow showing the direction to make them "heavy" or stiff on compression (or is it rebound). You have to push the rod all the way down into the body and then turn it; it moves a valve to adjust the shock. As I remember, adjustment runs from 70/30 (percentages compression/rebound) to 30/70.

Last time I called Koni and talked to them they indicated $180 to rebuild one. Those shocks used to be lifetime guarantee with free rebuliding, but that was about 1973. Guess things change.

Give KONI a ring at 800-922-2616. They are lifetime warranty as long as you are the ORIGINAL purchaser and have a sales receipt.

They are currently 2-3 months back-logged on shock/strut rebuilding.
