performance upgrade
What is the best performance upgrade you have ever done to your 914?

Purchasing a Factory 6....

Installing 4 Dunlop SP Sport A2's in P205/60-15's.
Whatever power your car currently makes, you might as well get it to the ground in a controlled fashion. http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate...WavingFlag.gif |
Dyno tuning the Djet FI to get the right A/F mix and lots more hp.

TAKING A DRIVING CLASS
By far the best thing performance wise was to take a drivers ed class. It was a group class at Laguna Seca, it was expensive, but worth every penny and more. Put a bunch of power under your right foot, and if you don't know how to handle it then you may have been better off with the car before. You will be surprised what you can get these little cars to do . . . Ask Brad Roberts, he'll tell you to do the same thing prolly. After you can drive it, then the best upgrade would be, just like Jim said, a flat 6! -Chris |
Best performance upgrade: Bright Chrome Yellow Paint job.
Because everybody knows, "yellow cars go faster" |
Not just yellow cars go faster. YPAF!!!
Yellow PORSCHES are faster -Chris |
I'm with the rest of these guys; yellow paint for sure. Oh, that and rack spacers. :D

I would say chucking the points........and going with some type of electronic ignition! Also the high volume oil pump are 2 good upgrades.

Green pine tree air freshener....:D

Oh, you mean you were serious? OK, I'll try to knock off the jokes for a second.
A 914/4 is not going to be fast in a drag race unless you spend cubic dollars on a large displacement four or unless you install a six or eight (or turbo). There are things you can do to make it run smoother, an electronic ignition was already mentioned and I agree completely. Making sure the engine is tuned properly is very important. Unfortunately there's not much you can do to make more power without major changes to the engine's internals. BUT...... what do 914s do best? Handle. IMO the best thing you can do to increase the performance is to improve the already good handling. Very high quilaity tires, anti-sway bars, stiffer torsion bars or springs, and good shocks all make big differences in the performance. As you are doing all that you will quickly discover that the car will outperform the driver. That's where the driving instruction comes in. There is no way i would have ever really learned the limits of one of my cars if I had never participated in an AX or DE. Plus it is so much fun it makes me grin like a fool ,even more than usual. |
Adding a "2316cc Annihilator" from my own line up....LOL

I am for the sway bars, and good tires.
Seats, man you need seats if you are planning on turning (RED-BEARD Mustang spanker!) or you should yank the belt really hard before you get 2 fast and furious. :) M |
Don't forget the brakes!
Sooner or later you gotta stop. Neal |
best bang for the buck was a driving class. I never knew what a difference a day makes...or what suspension loading was. option B: buy a book and find a safe place to try stuff. dammit, they built a Walmart in MY SPOT.
