5 Lug Conversion Front Rotors

Hi,

I am about to do a 5 lug conversion on my '76 2.0. I am going for the drilling option and tap out the holes to take the wheel bolts.

The problem is I bought new front rotors so that everything started as new (as recommended) but the '76 rotors have the wheel centring rim which dosen't fit in the centre hole of the new wheels. It looks as though it could be machined off. I know you are all going to say that I should have gone for the earlier rotors, but will machining it off these ones cause any problems with strength etc (I hope that I am not the first to come across this problem).

The rotors came from Germany so taking them back and changing them isn't really an option.

The wheels are 6x16 and 7x16 Fuchs from a '79 911SC.

Thanks for any help

Itf you have access to a lathe or mill - remove them - they're just there to make mounting the wheel easier.

I saw a very nice Mill, Lathe Drill combination for $565...(drool)

Save yourself some headache

Instead of going through the hassle of converting to a 5 lug bolt pattern, spend a few extra bucks and buy a Carrera front end. You'll thank yourself later.

Turn them for alloys..

That sounds very British, like 'check under the bonnet to see if it's earthed.'.

you can check for earths under the bonnet after filling up with petrol and packing your kit in the boot I guess!!!!:)

Thanks for you help - I must say I am tempted to convert to the 911 suspension - will have to talk to the chief accountant (Mrs!!!)

Thanks again

PJ UK - that was aimed at Steve Stromberg, a colonial rebel.
