Trunk Latch wont hold
How do you get the rear deck to stay closed? I have been screwing around trying to adjust the rear latch to get my deck lid to stay closed and lock. It has the solinoid in the rear to open it and it used to work but now it wont stay latched. It is worse when I put the top in the trunk. Yesterday I put the hydraulic struts in and it is still not staying latched. What am I doing wrong? Anybody else have this problem???

Sounds like a misalignment issue.
My vote: Bungee cord for today or Bailing wire. Screw with it tomorrow. |
My father and I spent a few hours playing with adjusments last night and it seems to have gotten worse. It doesnt even catch at all now. I have a few hours before leaving for the North county run and would really like to get it to at least catch and hold. I am just not ready to give up on it yet.

My 1971 never had a latch and the lid always stayed closed. You should be OK.

I know it wont fly open but it pops up a little and obviously looks open when I am driving. It's bad enough that I have not color sanded and buffed the car now the parts look like they dont fit right on the car. Maybe I am just being too critical.

No matter what, it can't be worse than the dreaded "914-H"
|
Well at least the 914-H had A/C for the hot days. I got it to work using the one from my Chalon. See you in a few hours.

check to see if the latch returns to the top. mine sticks down so I pull it up buy the latch then it locks. I also have a solenoid.

I would guess that one of the latch parts has worn too much. There are two pieces that contact each other and they can eventually wear out. I ordered new ones a couple of years ago from Pelican for our 1974 and that cured the problem. I think the 1974 wore out since the trunk was used a lot more than my 1973 so the wear was worse?! Good luck.
