Wheel Wobble - Partially Solved

Based on a previous post of mine, I was inquiring about my car and front end shimmy. Someone suggested that I could have a bent rim.

I jacked up the car & placed a stationary object next to the rim & spun the wheels. Sure enough, one of my front wheels had a very slight variation. About 1/8 inch defection.

To confirm, I moved the fronts to the rear & the shimmy diminished significantly.

My Question: Can a wheel shop correct this problem. I really like my rims (on my car) even though they aren't Porsche rims.

2nd Question: It looked to me that one of the tires also had some irregularness. Will a new balance job correct this or does this mean I need new tires. My tires are about 50% and I can't wait to change them but, I need a couple more months (I can only do so much each month).

Any advice would be great.................................Vern

Last winter I had 4 Goodyear regatta's put on my wifes car. They had to pull 3 off because of vibrations. Your problem may just be in the tire.

1/8" is a significant amount of runout in the wheel. That is at least part of the problem.

A wheel specialty place can un-bend the wheel, but it will usually wind up slightly weaker there than the other wheels.

Tires can be out of round or have other defects. A balance job can deal with that at least to some extent, but may not always solve the problem.

What Dave said is true... did you verify it was the rim and not the tire? A balance may help...
