Dream Cruise and AAR

Made my first big trip (50 miles each way) with the car this weekend to the Woodward Dream Cruise (suburban Detroit). Attendance was down due to the blackout and threats of rain, but still there were over a million people and tens of thousands of classic cars. I didn't see any other 914s (I'm sure there were some), and a few other Porsches here and there, including the 928 parked ahead of mine.

1.8 L-Jet, my AAR question is this: I think it's stuck shut. The car doesn't idle high when it first starts (used to), but once it's warmed up it runs perfect: dead nuts on 950rpm idle. If you shut it off and restart soon after it's fine, but if it sits for 30 minutes or more then you have to give it a little throttle to get it to start. Once warm again it's normal. Question: I'm sure the AAR has an effect when the engine is cold, but how about when partially warm (like when it sits for half hour or more)?

Depending on how cool the AAR gets, it would have some effect on an engine that's been sitting for a while. The AAR is controlled by a bi-metal spring, which moves the valve based solely on its temperature. The AAR also has a heating element inside of it to change the temperature of the spring at a given rate. (That's why the valve will still work, but very slowly, when it's unplugged.)
