pistons-which side up???
Which side faces up?
The only clues are the letters STD stamped in the center and the relieved area for the valves (?). Help- please, Neal |

All valves are angled into the combustion chamber area. If I had a head in my hand, I could tell immediately. Look at the combustion chamber on your head and see which way the valves are angled, either / or \ (face of valve). The flycut would be placed on the side of the valve that sticks out the most so that when it is open (ing) it does not stricke the piston. Remembering the valve train layout on the VW, the depression would be at the top of the engine.
these appear to be high compression pistons. Watch your CR when installing.

The valve reliefs go down, which would actually invert the STD stamp when correctly installed......
Watch those pistons!

Wouldn't it be a real hoot to find out that Jake had been building engines upsidedown?

The supplier suggested installing with the STD stamp right side up which did not make sense to me. Neal |

Hmmn, that clown probably never built an engine.....I hate people that sell things that know little about them...
Look at the cylinder heads and you will see an 11 degree valve angle that compliments those pistons being installed the way I suggested.. BTW, the piston are probably originally made for a 2.3L Ford engine.. If the rings say Grant on the box, well.............................
