Looking for NEW 165HR15 tires...

Thinking about a new set of stock tires...prefer Dunlops, just like original 914 equipment but I have found nothing available anywhere. Well thats not completely true. I found a vintage tire place that supplies 165HR15s in a Michelin XAS pattern, but they reqire tubes and are ~$200 a corner, before installation. Ugh.

If I bump the size to 195/60s there is plenty to choose from, but nothing in the stock 165HR15 size. I realize that is an obsolete tire sizing system.

Do you know of any sources other than looking for 30 year old used tires?

Tire rack shows Khumo for $29 each in a 165/80/r15

165/80 and 165 are for all practical purposes the same thing.

You also might pick up a "Hot VW" mag, I'm pretty sure I've seen Michelins in there for about 90 each.

Check Coker Tire. They sell tires for lots of "vintage" cars in "vintage" sizes like that. http://www.cokertire.com

One of the Hot VWs advertisers probably sells S-rated Michelin or Kleber 165's. Klebers are good for cruising, but reportedly don't hold up as well as Michelins under sustained heat / hard driving conditions.

Did a search on the Pirelli website, and apparently they don't make 165's any more.. also did a search on the Les Schwab site (bigtime NW - NorCal tire dealer) and no luck.

Perhaps somebody in Europe can help?

I have a set of junky uhh... Futura Metric (that sound right?) Pep Boys set on some nasty wheels, the only thing I could find good about them was absolute oemfection in rolling diameter.

165-15, one model.
