Other carbs
Well, here we go again. Last time I posted(just a few days ago) I was looking for opinions on a set of 36mm dollorto's. Now I have found a set of solex 40PII-4 that were fitted to a '76 912. Anybody out there with this set up or have any experience with
them. Also where do you find or where is the best place (best price?) to find a carb oriented cam and other things I will need for the conversion? Thanks for future responses and thanks to all the guys who answered the first post. Carb Ingnorant or Houston in Louisiana |

Abe, the 40PII-4 carbs were standard on the earlier 912's, ( 1966 to about 68 ). The '76, 912E was essentially the same 2.0L engine found in the 914, and was fuel injected. The Solex 40PII-4 is a good carb, but has had problems with wear at the throttle shaft, which causes air leaks. Rebuild kits are available, but i think other parts would be hard to find. Hope this helps.

Hi Abe-
I recently had the Solex's rebuilt on my 66 912 by my local mechanic. It didn't take to long and he did not seem to have a problem getting parts, including the bushings needed after machining the throttle shafts. The car runs excellent. It is obvious Porsche knew how to set up carb systems as my 912 runs so much smoother than my carbureted 914 (dual 44 Webbers). Any way, you should not have any problems getting them rebuilt by a reputable shop. If I recall, parts were only around $30 per carb. |
