There is an alternate that you can pick up at your FLAPS. I was pointed to a solid-state one that NAPA used to carry (dunno if they still do) that was reasonably cheap a while back. It's a slightly different shape, but does fit in the stock location and has the stock plug on the bottom of it.

Replacing alt. and VR

I just replaced my alternator, VR, and belt yesterday. I was lucky enough to find an alternator at my FLAPS for $55 and VR for $20. Throw in a new belt and the total cost was under $90.

Best of luck.

What were the specs (Mfg. & model #) on your VR?

TIA,

Like DD says, go to your FLAPS and get the aftermarket solid-state voltage regulator. Cheaper than the stock one and doesn't depend on some electromechanical do-hickey to work. Best $15 I ever spent.

Actually I went a little further. The shop had a solid-state VR that was adjustable. Less than the stock, but more than FLAPS.

Thanks all.

I have that one too. You'll find that it doesn't have a good way to line up with the screw holes in the side of the relay board. And you'll also find that, if it comes unplugged, your battery will not charge but the alternator light will also not come on.

Guess how I know this??
