VIN# Is there any meaning to it?

Just wondering, doe the VIN# on the car tell you anything like when your car was produced, number xxx out of , etc..

Just wondering.

The VIN number...not really. The 914 was not even produced in VIN order. The VIN was last thing assigned to a car after ity was completed and passed inspections.

The decoded chassis plate number (front drivers door) indicates the date your chassis began production.

See my 914 canam website at the link below for details

There is a little (very little) "encoding" in the 914-4 VIN.

47X29YYYYY

47 == 914-4
X == last digit of model year of car, e.g., '0' = 1970
29 == Karmann factory
YYYYY == sequential number of when they passed final inspection and got a VIN.

Great Info - thanks.

I just WON a 1974 2.0 in a raffle (that's right! only $25 bucks). The car is in route via. carrier, & I was simply wondering about it since I have the VIN#

Here's a photo - I'm really excited to see it in person
