crazy sunroof motor question

Over the past few months Iíve removed about 140 lbs from my 79sc by doing all the usual things that people do to remove weight.

I have a working sunroof that I enjoy on a daily basis and my question is this - if I remove the motor ( of the sunroof not the car ) is there a way to open and close the sunroof manually? If so how? Also, how much weight can I expect to save in exchange for the convenience of a sunroof that opens and closes at the push of a button.

Remember, I said it was a crazy question.

I think some people may not know where to post their questions. I just saw one in the for sale section that should be in here. Is it a full moon???

Porsche supplies a tool for manually opening or closing the sunroof on 911s, looks like a small crank and should be in the tool kit if you still have one. I think you could use it instead of the motor as long as you leave the gear mechanism in place but I'm not sure. Weight saving from removing the motor would be pretty darned small (a few pounds), but I guess every ounce counts on a 911

I would say just use your hands and push it off the body and stow it in the trunk...:P
