Attached are some recent photos...

This is an exact reproduction of the "Front Left Shock Tower Reinforcement" using a Porsche original part as a mold. The lower section where the 2 front oil cooler lines pass through, we decided to boxed in to further strengthen this area. The original part is left open...

You are looking at a 100 Liter Fuel Tank and 110mm Fuel Tank Cap...

The front trunk lid I had to bribe the Seller starting at $1,500 and incrementing my offer by $100 and ending at $2,500 to get him to crack. There are just a handful of original Front trunk lids available but their "respective owners" will not sell them. They fear they may need them for their "original 914-6 GT" cars if something ever goes wrong... I had to be very persuasive and the Seller asked to review my GT project before agreeing to sell me his original 914-6 GT front lid.

The rear trunk lids are going for about $1,500 if you can find them. I am shipping a rear trunk lid to Switzerland for about $1,700 including the crating and shipping (that was a deal! I may be able to get just one more and that’s it!). There are reproductions available for about $1,250 of extremely good quality, as a matter of fact; I am purchasing a reproduction Front so that I can store my original Front GT lid away. Besides, I have to drill several holes on the lid to install the "Front Hood Mounted Rally Lights" and I WILL NOT drill holes in my original.

I would only consider using the factory original trunk lids if you are going to the extent that I have in reproducing a factory 914-6 GT. There is no point in not using the excellent aftermarket reproduction and pay more when they are actually of better quality than the factory originals. Original is nice, but it cost more...

I hope I answered your questions…

Armando

A 914-6 GT Owner in the East coast, but he stopped making them and I have to check if there are any more available. He is not in good health... I'll check in the next 2 weeks (takes time to get back to you) and if you are really serious about purchasing them, please let me know. Attached is a photo of these pieces...

You are looking at the best fiberglass and balsa wood reinforced hood reproductions in the planet. Straighter than the factory original pieces. Spent more time making the molds...

These are all the templates, dies and molds that had to be fabricated in order to reproduce the steel shock tower reinforcements shown on the right side of this photo (green painted parts). It takes about one week to accurately reproduce a set.

Man those things are great...

They are nice enough to go in the dining room, add alittle stain

Very impressive work.

i didnt want to purchase a hood or anything i was just curious. the gt is my favorite car, i like to see them and hear stories but my car's final state might not see yours at the start of your project. i have not collected a lot of usefull parts for my conversion yet, but i dont think gt is in my budjet...
unfortunately.

not long ago (4 years) i could have bought an oem gt hood for $395.00. the 914 was not as popular then...
attitudes have changed from the old narp looks and stares.

what are your plans for your targa? did you source an original reinforced roof? i didnt see it documented on your site yet.

The reinforced top is not available anywhere (to my knowledge) and is a rather simple piece to duplicate in comparison to many other parts we have already reproduced. Fortunately for me, there is nothing on a 914-6 GT that the extremely talanted fabricator working on my project can't do...

I am not sure I have an answer to your question, but here is what I do know...

There are too many "unknown" factors related to your question such as the size of your engine and oil cooler, how do you mostly run your car? Is it a track or a street car? What temperature does you 914 run at now? Anyway, you get the idea...

I had to cut a large opening in the front that matches the cooling core area of the 908 cooler to maximize cooling. A steel shroud is also used to route the hot air out and down the exit hole cut at the bottom of the front trunk. The GT's were race cars and not street cars so they needed maximum cooling, besides, that's how the factory designed them and I am building a very accurate reproduction so I had to cut this rather large opening.

Having all of the details about your 914 engine, cooler setup and purpose, there are a lot of very technical savy racers in this website that can answer your question better than I can and could also recommend the correct size cooler, manufacturer, etc.

I hope this helps...

Armando

sorry for the foggy question...
i am trying to figure what i want to do for my conversion. i live in maryland, it's usually hot and humid in the summers. my 2.0/4 gets pretty hot after a couple hours of driving. the power band wil flatten out and it might get the "hot start" syndrome if im not carefull. i dont really wanna rebuild the 4, it's time for change...

im thinking between different engines and have not settled yet.
anyway i go im thinking atleast 180hp ( 2.7-3.2,). they say conversions run hotter anyways so i know ill need a front cooler but im wondering if those holes will provide enough flow.

can anyone tell me why mfi is such a big deal on the 914. i read soemwhere you need a hole in the firwall to adjust things...
mfi cars sound nice to me and i think i would run a 2.4e or S if it was not so disocuraged, but why is it?

is an mfi conversion that hard, is a 3.2 easier to fit and figure out?

anyone.

I suggest that you start a new thread about your questions. Most of the readers in this thread are looking to find or see information about "GT stuff" and you may not get the wide exposure you need.

Also try searching "keywords" in this knowledge base, someone may already have posted some of the answers you seek...

Red face Steel Shock Reinforcement Reproductions

*** F Y I ***

For anyone that may be interested in ordering a set of these 914-6 GT steel "shock tower reinforcement" reproductions, they will only be available for a "limited time only". Here is why...

Currently, I have yet to weld the reproduction pieces in my 914-6 GT project to insure that ALL reproductions we make fit accurately on both shock towers of the 914. Once I weld my 2 pieces in place, we will not have a 914 shock-tower "mock-up" to test for proper fit as the car now serves as part of the required reproduction tooling. Additional tooling/molds will have to be fabricated at a high premium and I have no plans to spend any more money just to fabricate one or two more sets. It will not be worth it for me, and the price of the sets will have to go up from the current $1,800.00 to well over $2,000. At the current price, they are already not cheap!

We are currently in the process of fabricating 3 more sets and ALL are spoken for...

http://hobbystage.net/porsche/media.cgi?site=9146gt&folder=*&group=1&page=*&id=1056577685-006813

Today is June 26, 2003, and I will only stall my GT project for 3 more weeks. After that, my reinforcements will be welded in to continue with my GT project.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at "ajserrano@msn.com"

Thank you for your time!

Armando
